Euclid Schools Welcome STEM Playbook’s Game Changers

Euclid Athletes Discover the STEM Careers Hiding Inside Sports.

Euclid has great athletes. That's a given.

So when STEM Playbook brought its Game Changers event to Euclid High School in late July, we didn't need to convince anyone that these students could compete. What we wanted them to see is everything that competing can lead to.

The event drew Euclid's fall sports athletes alongside students, staff, and community members for an afternoon built around one idea: sports isn't just a game, it's a gateway into some of the most in-demand careers around. 

Under the direction of Superintendent Karen Brown, who has spent decades with the district and stepped into the role this year, Euclid is doubling down on connecting students' passions to real career pathways — and sports is one of the biggest.

The careers hiding inside sports are easy to overlook until someone points them out. A love of stats and strategy can become a career as a data analyst breaking down game film. A knack for helping teammates recover from an injury can turn into a career as a sports trainer. An interest in flying and filming can lead to work as a drone pilot capturing game-day footage. A curiosity about equipment can become a career as an engineer designing the next generation of gear. The list goes on, and at Game Changers, so did the energy.

That energy showed up at every STEM Playbook station. Students tested their reflexes at reaction time stations. They tested out what makes floors and shoes grip.

At our computer vision gaming station, they used their own bodies as the controller, no joystick required, just movement translated straight into gameplay. 

Watching students realize that the tech behind their favorite games and the tech behind their favorite sport are often the same thing was the best part of the day.

Events like Game Changers are exactly why STEM Playbook exists: to show students that the skills they're already building on the field, the court, and the track connect directly to careers in data, engineering, technology, and beyond. 

Euclid's students showed up with talent and curiosity in equal measure, and we couldn't have asked for a better partner in Superintendent Brown and the Euclid City Schools team.
